The Great British Cookbook Launches!

On Monday 3rd October 2016, chefs from all over Great Britain took part in the launch of The Great British Cookbook.  The Tower is delighted to have been asked to provide a recipe for the 2nd time to this worthwhile cause.


Tower receives Green Tourism Award

The Tower is delighted to have been awarded, along with our partners at the National Museum of Scotland, the Green Tourism Award. 

This is a huge acheivement for the entire team who all work tirelessly to make sure each and every guest has a memorable time here at the National Museum and the Tower Restaurant and now have been recognised for their incredible efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our businesses.  Here's a list of some of things we are doing each and every day that helped us achieve the gold level of the award:

  • only buy seafood that has been hand-dived, which protects the seabed and marine life from the dredgers
  • insist our printers use recycled paper in all our publicity material
  • recycle all our food waste
  • recycle our paper/card/plastics
  • recycle all our glass bottles
  • Use local/organic suppliers wherever possible
  • recycle all our used oil
  • employee bike to work scheme
  • changing light fittings to low voltage/energy saving bulbs

Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2015

NEWS just in! The Tower's acclaimed Wine List has recieved the presigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 2015. 

This award is testament to the hard work that goes into keeping our wine list full of the best wines available.


Tower Head Chef, Jose Dalto, has been invited to create a recipe in the Great British Cookbook for the 2nd year in a row. 

"It's a great privilege to be asked to take part again and I'm looking forward to creating an exciting dish for the readers of the book as well as seeing all the other tasty recipes from the UK's top Chefs" Jose Dalto, Head Chef

The Tower as well as our Sister restaurants The Witchery and Prestonfield help charities throughout the year through voucher contributions and donations as well as work experience initiatives and also our own fund-raising for the Princes Trust, for which Tower boss, James Thomson is the Ambassador for Scotland.  So it goes without saying that we are delighted to be involved in this book, which we see as a fun and creative way of raising funds for very worthwhile charities.

Tower named best restaurant for Valentines Day

We are definitely feeling the love for after they named the Tower one of the top places to eat in Edinburgh on St Valentines Day.  With the best views in Edinburgh, an award-winning wine list and menu majoring in the best that Scotland's larder has to offer we think it is the best restaurant on any day of the year!  Read the blog article here;

Emma shortlisted for UK dessert of the year 2015

What a way to end, what has been an amazing year for Team Tower!  Our Pastry Chef, Emma has been shortlisted for UK dessert of the year 2015.

The annual competition is hosted by the UK Association of Pastry Chefs

With entries from Pastry Chefs from all over the UK, it is a huge achievement and we couldn't be prouder that Emma has made the top 10.  The judges chose Emma's mouthwatering pudding to appear at the final, which will be held at the Salon Culinaire Live Theatre of the Hospitality show on 21 January 2015 in Birmingham.
