James Thomson is Edinburgh’s star restaurateur - Time Out.

Edinburgh’s destination Tower Restaurant is part of a small collection of restaurants and hotels owned and created by the renowned Scottish restaurateur-hotelier, James Thomson. His collection includes the world-famous Witchery by the Castle and Scotland’s highest-rated hotel, Prestonfield as well as the rooftop Tower Restaurant.

James created the Tower in 1998. Since then, Edinburgh’s first and finest rooftop restaurant has become a much-loved Edinburgh institution and one of Scotland’s most famous destination restaurants. After a decade and a half the Tower remains a favourite restaurant for visitors to the city, a host of celebrity guests and its many fiercely-loyal regular local diners.

James was recently named Restaurateur of the Year by Caterer & Hotelkeeper, joining an elite academy that includes Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsay and Sir Terence Conran as former winners. As you would expect, standards are high throughout all of James' collection: diners at the Tower expect one of the best restaurants in Scotland!

Many of us who work with James have been with him for a decade or more. Some have developed their careers in different parts of the collection, whilst others have developed new and different roles as their careers have progressed.  We all share the same exceptional passion for delighting our guests.
